I recently saw an Instagram post that made me laugh:
“1 kid is 1 kid. 2 kids are 5 kids. 3 kids are 9473837 kids, 8 hurricanes, & a donkey.”
Parenting any number of children requires grit and endurance, but parenting three kids is chaos. I am a working mom to three boys who are never not hungry, are perpetually in motion, and need to be driven to 21 sports practices and games every week. Call me a chef, Olympian, and chauffeur—I deserve a trophy (or at least another cup of coffee). Parents with more than three, how do you do it?
As the Associate Editorial Director for Simply Recipes, I know that many of our readers are in the same boat—you’re busy parents who teeter-totter between euphoric and exhausted as your kids go from behaving like angels to turning into banshees. I know this because our most popular recipes are family-friendly ones that take less than 30 minutes (not a minute more!) and don’t require a trip to the grocery store (because who has the time!). You come to us for dinnertime solutions on your busiest weeknights.
If this rings true, I love the new column called Take Five With Grace that our friends over at Parents launched this week—you should check it out! Editor-in-Chief Grace Bastidas gets personal with celebrity parents, asking five questions revealing that we parents are, in fact, on the same wild ride.
Grace’s first guest is Molly Yeh, mom of two and host of the Food Network show Girl Meets Farm. Molly reveals, “I’m not the fun parent. I try not to stress out over the fact that I’m terrible at just playing.” These are my feelings exactly, and it makes me feel a little less bad that I’m not alone.
Take Five With Grace is a bi-weekly column. Don’t miss the next story by signing up for Parents’ newsletter.
