“In an act of shrewd politics and selfless patriotism, Joe Biden is stepping aside to clear the path for another Democrat to become president . . . because there is nothing more important for our country than defeating Donald Trump at the ballot box. With respect, admiration, and affection, thank you Mr. President!” Robert De Niro shared in a statement, via Deadline.
“Joe Biden has presided over the most consequential first term of real progress in my lifetime. He helped us have the most robust recovery from the pandemic of any nation in the world, invested in our infrastructure and made by far the largest investment in fighting climate change our nation has ever seen. He relieved burdensome college debt for so many. Unemployment, inflation and crime are all down dramatically from the highs caused by the pandemic,” John Legend shared on Threads. “With this record, he more than earned re-election, but time and age come for us all. I’m grateful for the grace and patriotism he has shown by choosing to step aside for the sake of the country. I’m so ready to work to help unite the pro-democracy coalition to reject Trump’s authoritarian, oppressive Project 2025 and elect Kamala Harris as our President. She’s ready for this fight and I’m excited to help her in any way I can.”
Jamie Lee Curtis wrote on Instagram, “I support wholeheartedly @joebiden and his decision to step down and to endorse unreservedly @kamalaharris SHE IS TRUSTED AND TESTED and she is a fierce advocate for women’s rights and people of color and her message is one of HOPE and UNITY for America at her time of great national divide.”
“Okay everybody, now we have our marching orders and time to hit the trail running. No to Trump/Vance. No to the right-wing Christian religious takeover of our nation. Screenwriter Damon Lindelof shared on Instagram, “There has been a push to “pass the torch, Joe”… and he just did, without equivocation, to @kamalaharris. And it’s so reassuring and compelling to hear The Vice President say she will EARN and WIN that torch. Suffice to say, the DEMBARGO is lifted. And here. We. GOOOOOOOOOOO!”
