Janet Jackson Passed on Chance to Receive Global Impact Award at Grammys 2023 After She was Unable to Secure Apology from CBS for Their Treatment of Her Following Super Bowl Halftime Show (Report)

Janet Jackson was reportedly up to win the Global Impact Award at the 2023 Grammys. However, she wanted an apology from CBS for her treatment after her infamous Super Bowl wardrobe malfunction before she’d accept it.

The 56-year-old music legend was blacklisted by CBS after suffering a wardrobe malfunction while performing with Justin Timberlake during the 2004 Halftime Show.

She wanted the network to apologize for their treatment of her in some sort of meaningful way before she’d agree to appear onstage at the Grammys, according to TMZ.

CBS, which aired the Super Bowl in 2004 and the Grammys, disinvited her to the musical awards show that year.

According to the report, Janet was originally supposed to accept the Global Impact Award at an event ahead of the actual ceremony. However, she was unable to attend due to scheduling conflicts, which led to the proposal of honoring her during the televised awards show.

Although Grammys organizers reportedly tried to help bridge the gap, talks allegedly fell apart because of complications.

The Recording Academy wound up honoring Dr. Dre, Missy Elliott and Lil Wayne with the Global Impact Award instead.

Janet also seemingly reflected on her Super Bowl performance in a message thanking her fans after the 2023 Super Bowl took place.
