Part of my job as a fashion editor is to predict how the internet will react to new releases, runway collections, collaborations, and more. It’s not enough to see a trend once it’s already caught on. You have to spot it early and take a chance. Well, that’s exactly what I’m doing today, because after noticing that Nordstrom’s editor-favorite in-house brand Open Edit had dropped a pair of new Mary-Jane flats that come in two color-ways—silver and black—and cost just $60, my editor senses started tingling, a sure-fire sign that I’d just found a future hit.
The flats, named Regina, have a slightly pointed toe and feature a delicate strap across the top of the foot. It’s these details and more that immediately reminded me of the offerings found elsewhere on Nordstrom’s website, in the designer shoe section, where pairs by the likes of The Row, Aeyde, and Prada can be found. The big difference, though, is that those go for hundreds of dollars (or more). These will only set you back $60—or, if you buy both colors, which might have to be my move, $120.
