To make a tomato sandwich, you really only need three ingredients: white bread, mayonnaise, and fresh tomatoes. It’s delicious as-is, and this is how I eat it most often.
However, there are countless ways one can go about sprucing up a tomato sandwich. Add avocado, lettuce, sweet onion, or thick slices of sharp cheddar cheese—these are my go-to ways to upgrade the sandwich I eat all summer long.
Recently, I saw @chelseasmessyapron on TikTok make her popular cucumber sandwiches. She added a three-ingredient spread to her sandwiches. It’s a simple mixture of cream cheese, mayonnaise, and a Hidden Valley Ranch seasoning packet. I was inspired to try the spread on a tomato sandwich—it sure did not disappoint!
How To Make My Tomato Sandwich With Ranch Spread
To make one sandwich, you’ll need:
- 1 (8-ounce) block cream cheese at room temperature
- 1/2 cup mayonnaise
- 1 (1-ounce) packet Hidden Valley Ranch seasoning
- 2 slices white bread
- 1 ripe tomato, sliced
- 1 ripe avocado, sliced (optional)
Combine the cream cheese, mayo, and ranch seasoning in a small bowl. It’ll be easier to combine if the cream cheese is at room temperature. This makes way more spread than you’ll need for one sandwich, but don’t worry! You can keep in the fridge all week for the tomato sandwiches you’ll soon have on repeat.
While you slice the tomato and optional avocado, put the ranch spread in the fridge, where it will firm up a bit and the flavors will meld.
Smear both slices of bread with the ranch spread, and stack the sliced tomatoes and avocado to build your sandwich.
Easy Tips for Making This Delicious Tomato Sandwich
- Storage: If stored properly, you can enjoy this tasty combination of flavors for at least five days. Keep it refrigerated in an airtight container. I noticed that it tastes better after a day or two in the fridge—give it a good stir before using it again.
- Add Fresh Herbs: Fresh herbs such as chopped dill, chives, or parsley are all easy additions that will do wonders for the sandwich as fresh herbs always do.
- Toast the Bread: Toast your bread before building the sandwich. The texture of the toasted bread will take your sandwich to the next level.
