Who says you have to wear deep burgundy, black, and inky purple nail polish colors come fall? Not Selena Gomez! (And yes, that was a reference to her 2011 hit song “Who Says,” thank you very much.) The actor and musician ditched the traditional dark fall polish shades in favor of something a bit more bright and cheery to walk the red carpet at the premiere of her no-holds-barred documentary, My Mind and Me — and it’s got me rethinking my entire nail polish philosophy.
Gomez’s go-to nail artist Tom Bachik shared a snapshot of her bright sunset yellow-orange nails, which beautifully complemented her violet satin one-shoulder gown. “Sunset yellow for our sunshine girl,” Bachik wrote in his caption. “So proud of you, Sel!” Instead of a moody autumnal color or lengthy extensions, Bachik and Gomez opted for a short, marigold yellow manicure that felt so fresh and fun, especially when paired with that enormous David Webb cocktail ring on her middle finger. Gomez paired the mani with the gorgeous slip dress, a slicked-down bun parted dramatically to one side, and a smoky eye.
Bachik didn’t share the exact shade that he used on the Rare Beauty founder, but he did ask fans for their input on what to do with Gomez’s nails via Instagram Stories. Was a fan responsible for the cheerful sunshine yellow? That remains to be seen. Bachik also shared that he used his Tweezerman Ultimate Nail Care Set for “perfect cuticles.”
