Boy Meets World stars Danielle Fishel and Rider Strong are opening up about one episode of the popular sitcom that gave them pause.
The duo played Topanga and Shawn, two of the main characters on the popular ’90s series.
On their podcast Pod Meets World, they talked about the show’s one prom episode where Topanga and her boyfriend Cory consider taking the next step in their relationship. However, both actors revealed that a part of the plot didn’t resonate with them.

Rider explained that he talked to the show’s executive producer Michael Jacobs because the episode didn’t mention birth control or condoms despite the intimate subject matter.
“The fact that we would not bring up Cory and Topanga using condoms or having a discussion about birth control at all, and yet the entire episode was about will they or will they not,” he said.
“I remember just being so upset, and I brought it up, I remember talking to Michael about it and saying: ‘Can we talk about this? Maybe you generationally don’t understand that, but we were growing up in the era of AIDS, this is something that we have to talk about. When you are discussing losing your virginity, you discuss how you’re going to do it and how to be safe about it,’” Rider added.
Danielle agreed that she felt “very uncomfortable the whole week for similar reasons.”
“I don’t have specific memories other than just, kind of, ickiness about the week,” she recalled.
Danielle has previously revealed who her Boy Meets World crush was and talked about being nearly fired on her first day.
