Ariana Grande is getting back together with her signature hairstyle and fans are already losing their minds. The pop star has tried a few new looks over the last few years, but none are quite as iconic as the half-up, half-down ponytail—consider it part of the Ari starter pack, which also includes oversize sweatshirts and dreamy makeup from her beauty line, r.e.m. beauty.
Since January 14 on TikTok, Grande has been teasing the release of a limited-edition line of r.e.m. beauty cosmetics, inspired by “Thank U, Next.” To the tune of an Elle Woods quote from Legally Blonde remix, Grande introduced the “utmost importance plumping lip gloss — xl,” an extra-shiny lip gloss that made her lips look reflective. There’s something nostalgic about the simple tube of gloss, which is reminiscent of something you might have found at Claire’s in 2008, but so, so much better.
As exciting as a new r.e.m. beauty collection is, the real star of the show was Ariana Grande’s honey-blonde hair (preparation for her role as Glinda in the upcoming Wicked movie) in a throwback style. Half of her golden locks were pulled into a defined ponytail, while the rest of her hair fell over her shoulders. It’s a look that Grande hasn’t sported in quite some time and fans of the “Positions” singer are freaking out.
“THE HALFUP HALFDOWN IS BACK WE WON,” one Twitter user wrote. Another says, “MOTHER LOOK AT HER SHES SO STUNNING.” One person summed it up perfectly with, “that’s a big big slay.”
Along with the plumping gloss, Grande bundled her favorite essentials in the Thank U, Next Favorite Things Eye Set, which includes eye shadow, eyeliner, and lashes. The Thank U, Next Limited Edition Collection is live and it’s a perfect throwback to the song’s notebook aesthetic—but we’re still screaming about the return of her iconic ponytail.
