Chriselle Lim is one of the original influencers. She started her blog, The Chriselle Factor, in 2011, posting outfit-of-the-day videos, makeup tutorials, and product reviews before it was cool. Lim was also one of the first creators to monetize her point of view. “As I continued to build up content, there were a lot of business opportunities that came along,” she says.
Today, Lim’s focus is on two businesses of her own: Bümo, a members-only coworking space with childcare services, and Phlur, a line of fragrances built around what she does best: storytelling. “I think that’s the most powerful tool anyone can use when they’re trying to sell fragrance online,” Lim says. The names she selected, such as Not Your Baby and Lost Cause, invite wearers to create stories of their own. “Let’s just say they’re all conversation-starters,” says Lim. Below, Lim shares eleven of her go-to beauty products and why.
“The Therabody TheraFace Pro is the best facial device I’ve ever experienced. [I’m always using] the cleansing ring [attachment], but the red-light therapy and microcurrent rings are on rotation too. I also like to use the cold ring in the morning to depuff.”
“There’s nothing like SkinCeuticals C E Ferulic. It definitely brightens [my skin], but it also helps control my oily areas, which prevents breakouts. I have yet to meet a serum that makes my skin look as glassy and dewy as Clé de Peau Beauté The Serum. It’s my number one skin-care product because [the effect] lasts all day and night.”
“I’ve had a hard time finding a moisturizer that helps with fine lines without clogging my pores. Naturium Multi-Peptide Moisturizer does just that, plus it gives me a glow. I’m very picky with my deodorants because I sweat a lot when working out. I love the jasmine scent of Saltair Santal Bloom Natural Deodorant.”
“With Phlur Missing Person, I did nothing but tell my story. During a hard time in my life, I wanted to bottle up warmth as if there was someone next to me. Phlur Somebody Wood is truly unisex. It’s woody, but still very light and crisp.”
“Clé de Peau Beauté Radiant Cushion Foundation gives medium coverage, and the compact is great for travel. I use Westman Atelier Super Loaded Tinted Highlight in Peau de Rosé all
over, from my cheeks up to my temples. I never liked cream shadows until [I tried] Chanel Ombre Première. It’s long-wearing and doesn’t transfer. Make Beauty Serum Balm Intense in Shock Layer plumps my lips and adds a hint of color.”
