Dwayne Johnson is gearing up to start filming the live-action Moana movie, and he just shared some very exciting news.
The 52-year-old actor is set to reprise his role of Maui, which he first voiced in the 2016 animated Disney movie.
He took to social media this week to provide an update on production and to reflect on getting to bring the character to life on camera for the first time.

On Instagram, Dwayne shared a photo of the movie’s four big stars, including Catherine Laga’aia who will play the title character.
“It’s our deepest honor to share the legends, songs, dances and traditions of our Polynesian culture with all of you and your families around the world,” he said, adding that they’d enter production in August.
The movie will arrive in theaters on July 10, 2026.
Dwayne will also return to Disney for Moana 2, the animated sequel that premieres on November 27, 2024. Check out the trailer for that one!
