On October 15, 2019, Jennifer Aniston created her first Instagram post, which has well over 16 million likes at the time I’m writing this. The post in question was a selfie of her and the rest of the Friends cast, taken during a reunion dinner party at Courteney Cox’s house. Since her first post, Aniston has given us little peaks into her life, but she admitted to Allure in our December 2022 issue that she actually hates social media.
So it only made sense to ask our December 2022 cover star to share her candid thoughts, live on camera, about TikTok and its sometimes-brilliant, sometimes-silly, and sometimes-downright-dangerous trends. Though the actor isn’t on the infamous clock app, she is familiar with a few of its popular trends because most of them are throwbacks from the ’90s and 2000s. In fact, the video was full of nostalgia and includes several old images of Aniston wearing the trends pre-smart-phones.
The first trend we subjected her to was the “nose vacuum,” which involves using a pore vacuum on your nose to suck out blackheads. Aniston immediately said “oh my goodness,” while watching, but she supported the trend in the end. She grabbed a pore vacuum from the table beside her, which we littered with the tools and ingredients necessary for these viral hacks, and tested it on her own hand. “OK, can I take this home? Because I want to do this,” she said mere seconds after the tool touched her skin.
She wasn’t as excited about the second trend: bleached eyebrows. While watching a TikToker express mixed emotions over their own bleached eyebrows, Aniston noted that she could relate. Though she never actually bleached her eyebrows, the late makeup artist Kevyn Aucoin once covered her eyebrows with white pigment for one of her first magazine covers. “Next thing you know I had no eyebrows,” she said. “This face needs eyebrows.”
The next trend was curtain bangs, something Aniston and many others approve of. “I love a curtain bang,” she said while referencing her shorter face-framing pieces of hair. “I’m a big supporter of them, and I have them.” Right as she appeared on the screen, Aniston immediately remarked, “Oh dear.”
