The 10 Best Thanksgiving Costco Food Finds, According to Reddit

Date:

When it comes to feeding a crowd, Costco is undoubtedly the place to go. As a top-tier warehouse store, Costco has always blown me away with the high-quality brands and products they carry.

And what better time for a Costco haul than when preparing to serve a bountiful Thanksgiving feast? While Costco has a full Thanksgiving Day meal kit that you can spring for, it also sells nearly every ingredient a home cook needs to whip up their most impressive Turkey Day dinner yet.

But with the sheer amount of options to choose from, it can be tricky to know exactly which Thanksgiving Costco buys are worth the investment. I took to Reddit to find out what the must-have items are this holiday season.

10 Must-Try Thanksgiving Costco Products

1. Pumpkin Pie

If you’re not the most accomplished baker, Costco’s pumpkin pie can be a holiday lifesaver. And even if you do love to bake, this pie can save you time and money. “I can’t bake a pumpkin pie for what it costs to buy from Costco,” says Redditor mtoomtoo.

And if you’re dubious about whether the flavor of this Turkey Day classic delivers, rest assured that it does—so much so that it can be easy to overindulge. “I have allowed myself one time out of the year to enjoy this pie,” Redditor coogie admits on a Reddit thread solely dedicated to this pie.

2. Fried Onion Strips

A common dish on Thanksgiving Day tables across the nation is green bean casserole, specifically one topped with fried onion strips. While these retro onion bits can be pricey at many grocery store chains, you’ll find affordable, high-quality ones at Costco.

“So much cheaper to get a bag of them at Costco than it is to buy the little tins of French’s from the grocery store—and they’re good on just about anything and last forever,” says Redditor JacedFaced.

3. Swanson Chicken Broth

Costco fans agree that the 12-pack of Swanson Chicken Broth is essential for Thanksgiving cooking since it’s a common ingredient in stuffing, gravy, potato dishes, and a variety of veggie sides. Chicken broth is also an ingenious way to keep your turkey moist.

“I like Swanson because it’s lower sodium and I use it throughout the year for other things, and I don’t have much freezer space to store homemade stock,” says Hangrycouchpotato on the thread.

4. Bread

Stuffing is one of the most popular dishes of the holiday (or it is in my household!), so stocking up on plenty of bread is key. Thankfully, Costco really delivers here thanks to an impressive bread section.

“I like cornbread or a good sourdough, Italian, or French (loaf)…(they’re) great for stuffing,” explains Redditor urnbabyurn.

5. Apple Pie

Similar to their pumpkin pie, Costco’s apple pie is also a fan favorite. “The apple pie is both cheaper to buy than you could make it for, and a really good pie for the cost (and huge),” JacedFaced explained.

To avoid frustration when shopping for your Costco pies, these pros also advised on where to look for both in the store. “Pumpkin is in the fridge, apple is by the muffins usually,” shared Redditor Ravioli_meatball19.

6. Potatoes

Whether you’re whipping up heaps of mashed potatoes or assembling a festive gratin, potatoes are a cornerstone of most Thanksgiving meals. Several Redditors mentioned potatoes as their must-have Costco buy this time of year. Not only are they great quality, but you can load up on plenty of spuds for a super affordable price.

7. Crescent Rolls

When it comes to foods that many home cooks purchase instead of make on this cooking-intensive holiday, rolls often top the list. While Costco has plenty of roll varieties to choose from, the 8-can pack of crescent rolls is a top pick for Costco aficionados.

“They usually go on sale right before Thanksgiving and they’re so versatile. My dad uses leftover cranberry sauce, goat cheese, and turkey and stuffs them in the crescent rolls—so good,” explains Redditor rvp0209.

8. Oven-Roasted Turkey Breast

Whether you’re feeding a smaller crowd or simply don’t want to go through the hassle of cooking a whole turkey, Costco has you covered with its oven-roasted turkey breast. This Redditor-approved pre-cooked option is easy to dress up, too!

“For the turkey breast, I cover it in butter and thyme and pop it in the oven. It’s just the two of us, so I don’t make a ton of food,” says Redditor jenorama_CA.

9. Pumpkin Cheesecake

If you’re not a huge pie fan (like myself, admittedly), Costco’s pumpkin cheesecake is a scrumptious alternative that is still plenty festive. Redditor velmaranony says it’s “so so good; we get one every year when they come out and freeze it for Thanksgiving. But it’s huge, so I think this year I’ll split it and freeze the two halves; one for Thanksgiving and one for Christmas!”

10. Fresh Cranberries

And finally, no Turkey Day spread would be complete without some kind of cranberry dish. Unsurprisingly, Costco is the perfect place to buy them fresh at an affordable price—if your location is lucky enough to stock them.

“If they have fresh cranberries, I’ll grab those too. I have a Julia Child cranberry chutney and a cranberry curd tart I like to make,” said jenorama_CA.
