This past Monday Apple released the latest version of its OS for wearables – we’re talking watchOS 9. This went out to the Apple Watch Series 4 and newer models, but it turns out there’s a problem.
The update introduces a bug that breaks Spotify streaming. The service has been busy emailing its users about the issue this week, and the message from the company reads as follows:
Apple watchOS 9 introduced a bug that causes Spotify streaming on the Apple Watch to stop working. We urge Spotify Apple Watch users not to install the watchOS 9 update until Apple has implemented a fix for the issue. Users who are already affected can instead download their content to their Apple Watch and listen offline or stream from their phones.
According to multiple user reports, once you update your watch to the latest version, if you attempt to stream Spotify content on it, the stream will stop working within the first minute – and yet the progress bar continues to move as if playback had continued. The problem has been spotted on both Wi-Fi and cellular connections.
So if you stream Spotify a lot to your Apple Watch, it’s best to wait for the next update coming for your wearable. Apple has in fact already seeded the first beta of the upcoming watchOS 9.1 build to developers, and this is likely to be released to everyone within the next few weeks, so hang tight.
