Emma D’Arcy opened up about being nominated at the 2023 Golden Globes.
The 30-year-old actor went into the show with a nomination in the Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series – Drama category for their work on House of the Dragon.
They opened up about the honor of being nominated and referred the timing of the experience as “beautifully ironic.”

Emma, who is nonbinary, told E! News that the nomination came after they were able to fully embrace their identity in Hollywood.
“When I was starting out, I really felt that I had to present as a woman in order to find success in this industry,” they recalled. “It wasn’t sustainable, and I stopped pretending. And weirdly at that point I got nominated for Best Actress for the Golden Globes, which is like beautifully ironic.”
They continued, noting that they felt “very privileged.”
Furthermore, Emma said that the recognition meant something on a larger scale: “It implies the space for trans people and gender non-conforming people is getting bigger all the time.”
The Golden Globe ultimately went to Zendaya. However, House of the Dragon won Best Television Series – Drama! Watch Emma and co-star Milly Alcock deliver the acceptance speech.
