Nottingham Forest are ready to make a club-record offer for Wolves forward Matheus Cunha.
Forest are one of five Premier League clubs, including Arsenal, who are interested in signing the player.
It is thought that an offer of around £60m could be enough to tempt Wolves to sell.
Wolves are adamant Cunha is not for sale in this window despite the interest.
Cunha, who has two-and-a-half-years left on his contract, is a crucial part of Wolves’ team as they look to battle to stay in the Premier League.
Sky Sports News understands Wolves are relaxed about the contract situation with Cunha.
Discussions around a new contract were about rewarding his form and contribution to the side over the last 12 months.
Despite a new contract not being signed – it is understood this has no immediate impact on his future at Wolves.
Wolves are not under financial pressure to sell Cunha either – they made over £90m from the sales of Pedro Neto and Max Kilman last summer and their priority is Premier League safety.
To those interested in Cunha – the message is clear from Wolves; they have received no offers, no contact has been made from other clubs but – most importantly – he is not for sale.
The 25-year-old is believed to be extremely upset that he was singled out for criticism by manager Vitor Pereira after Wolves lost at Chelsea on Monday night. Pereira said he did not like Cunha’s body language.
Sky Sports News reported on Tuesday that Arsenal are also keeping an eye on Cunha’s situation. Manchester City have also had Cunha down as a target but it appears they have decided to sign Omar Marmoush instead.
Arsenal are bereft of attacking options following serious injuries to Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Jesus – with Jesus’ knee injury set to rule him out for the rest of the season.
“I think we are very short,” Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta admitted this week.
Wolves do not want to let Cunha go given they are 17th in the Premier League table.
But Sky Sports News understands he is unlikely to sign a new contract at Molineux.
Forest have also made a bid for Brentford’s Yoane Wissa.
But Brentford are not keen to sell and Forest’s offer is understood to have been lower than £22m – far short of Brentford’s valuation of the forward.
Meanwhile, Arsenal have used both of their domestic loan spots up on goalkeeper Neto from Bournemouth and Raheem Sterling from Chelsea.
That means any move for Cunha would have to be a permanent deal unless Arsenal let one of those players return to their parent club.
Arsenal could also sign Neto or Sterling permanently to free up a domestic loan spot.
