Zac Efron is opening up about his very scary accident.
Last year, the 34-year-old actor appeared in a video where fans were quick to notice that his face looked a lot different than it used to. At the time, many people assumed that Zac got plastic surgery.
In a recent interview, Zac put the plastic rumors to rest, revealing that he actually “shattered his jaw,” explaining that he’d been running in his house with socks on and fell, causing him to slip and hit his chin against a granite fountain. He passed out and when he regained consciousness, his chin bone was hanging off his face.
Zac then explained the reason why his face looked different is because of his masseter muscles, which are on the cheeks and are used for chewing, overcompensated due to his injury.
While promoting his new movie The Greatest Beer Run Ever at TIFF, Zac shared more details about the injury, revealing that it nearly killed him.

“My mom told me. I never really read the internet, so, I don’t really care,” Zac told ET about all of the plastic surgery rumors.
While he said that he found the rumors “funny,” Zac admitted that the accident nearly killed him.
“It was funny,” Zac said. “It sucks. I almost died, but we’re good.”
If you missed it, Zac also recently opened up about a private struggle.
